Sway Control Hitches Launch
July 1st 2020
Sway Control Hitches was developed to address the problem of caravan and trailer sway and the lack of preventative solutions on the market. Sure, cheap vertical chain style weight distribution hitches address the problem of spreading the trailer tongue weight evenly over the axels but they do nothing to prevent sway.
The options were pretty much limited to having an electronic sway control (ESC) device fitted. The problem here is that you only find out if it works “after” the caravan or trailer has started to sway as the ESC is reactionary. That is it reacts to sway but does not prevent sway from occurring. We thought there must be a better solution so we looked to find the very best mechanical preventative sway control hitches with built in weight distribution.
Sway Control Hitches is a division of Titan Stability Solutions Pty Ltd. We reviewed all sway control hitches available world wide and came up with the two most outstanding hitch manufacturers in the USA: Andersen Manufacturing and Progress Manufacturing. Today, we are the exclusive Australian importer and distributor for these two outstanding manufacturers.
It was not an easy road to travel as hitch sizes in the USA are different from Australia. As an example, the USA uses a 2” ball and Australia uses a 50mm ball. You cannot use a 2-inch ball in Australia so Sway Control Hitches had to modify all its hitches to suit Australian standards.
Tow without Fear. That is the comment we hear all the time. A Sway Control Hitch is the standard by which all other hitches will be judged.
Changing the discussion in Australia
Most of the discussion on sway control centers around loading your Caravan correctly.
The importance of loading your van correctly is not to be underestimated and is one of the first rules of towing safely. However, the weigh distribution in your caravan or trailer can change. For example, you leave a camp site in the morning with empty water tanks and a full grey water tank. Along the way you empty the grey water tank and later fill up all the fresh water tanks, fuel up and buy supplies. Each time, you are changing the weight distribution points in the caravan.
Combined with changing driving conditions like wind strength and direction, overtaking, descending a hill etc. The components that cause sway can combine at any time. It is not all about being a good driver or simply loading your van correctly, it is about having a preventative sway control device fitted so that you can enjoy peace of mind.
